Vision
Founded in 1966 by Fritz Schumacher and his associates, ITDG
is driven by the vision “a world free of poverty
and injustice in which technology is used for the benefit of all.”
Its mission is to “help eradicate
poverty in developing countries through the development and use of appropriate
technology by demonstrating results, sharing knowledge and influencing
others".

Activities
Are grouped around four International Programme Aims:
To strengthen the ability of poor women and men to use
technology to cope with natural disasters and environmental degradation e.g.
(droughts, floods) and civil conflict e.g. (conflict over limited natural
resources);
To enable poor people to use technologies to build secure
livelihoods, through improved systems of production, processing and marketing
e.g. (product development and diversification, access to technical and market
information, access to niche markets, etc)
To improve the access of poor women and men to locally
managed infrastructure services e.g. (renewable energy services, water,
sanitation, solid waste management, transport technologies to improve mobility
and locally managed communication services)
Aim
4: Responding to New Technologies
To enable poor people to assess and respond to the
challenges of new technologies and to develop and adopt applications that improve their livelihoods e.g. (scanning new
technologies for opportunities for poverty reduction, building knowledge and
capability and piloting applications, etc).
